Season 2 Episode 5 - Human Dignity

This week on the Bishop and Vicars, the idea of human dignity is our topic of discussion. In our society today our understanding of anthropology has been increasingly unmoored from objective standards. The human person is whatever he or she wants to be. As Father Connall pointed out in our last episode the quote from Supreme Court's 1993 decision in Planned Parenthood vs. Casey "At the heart of liberty is the right to define one's own concept of existence, of meaning, of the universe, and of the mystery of human life," is a sort of modern "non serviam." The defiant cry of Satan to God, "I will not serve." Opposed to this relativistic understanding of the human person is the Catholic concept of human dignity. In light of so many school shootings and the increasing division in our own society we need the revolutionary understanding of the human person that is brought to light by the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
